Federal IVF Affordability Plan Announced: What It Means for Patients

Posted on October 18, 2025 by Inception Fertility

On October 16, 2025, President Trump introduced a new set of proposals aimed at improving access to fertility care in the United States. These initiatives are designed to reduce the cost of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and encourage broader insurance coverage for fertility services. While the announcement has generated significant interest, the proposed changes are not yet in effect.

Summary of the Proposed Initiatives

  • TrumpRx Medication Discounts: A new government-supported platform is expected to offer reduced pricing on select EMD Serono fertility medications, including Gonal-f, Ovidrel, and Cetrotide.
  • Employer Benefit Guidance: The administration is encouraging employers to offer infertility benefits as standalone options, similar to dental or vision coverage. These benefits would remain voluntary and unsubsidized.

What Patients Should Know

  • The TrumpRx program is not yet active. It is anticipated to launch in 2026, but no official start date has been confirmed.
  • The proposed discounts apply only to specific medications and may not be relevant to all treatment protocols.
  • Employer participation in offering fertility benefits will remain optional, and coverage will vary by plan.

Our Perspective at NYULFC

At NYU Langone Fertility Center, we support efforts to make fertility care more accessible and affordable. However, we also recognize that fertility is time-sensitive. Delaying care in anticipation of future policy changes may not be in the best interest of many patients. For the full announcement, visit The Prelude Network.

If you are currently trying to conceive or exploring fertility treatment, we encourage you to consult with a reproductive endocrinologist. We will continue to monitor these developments closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
