Gay Parenting Resources in New York City

Since our founding in 1992, NYU Langone Fertility Center has been leading the way in New York City for all individuals, straight, gay, married, unmarried, partnered or single, to translate the love they feel into the family they desire. Over the past three decades, we have celebrated the changes (both social and technological) that have made modern family building possible for ALL people to achieve the dream of parenthood. As advocates and care providers for LGBTQ+ families, we understand the unique challenges gay parents face both having a baby and raising a child. Below are some gay parenting resources for LGBTQ+ folks in New York City so LGBTQ families can continue to thrive long after they’ve graduated from NYULFC’s care.

The Center

Founded in 1983, The Center supports, fosters, and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community of New York City. Located on West 13th Street in Manhattan, The Center welcomes more than 300,000 visitors every year, providing social, cultural, wellness and health-based programming to support the vibrant LGBTQ+ community of NYC. For gay parents and families, The Center offers programming designed to help LGBTQ+ families establish healthy relationships and community connections. From questions about building a family, to gay parenting support and network, to medical resources and referrals, The Center provides the information gay parents need in a supportive, affirming environment designed to keep LGBTQ+ families and partnerships strong.

Support Groups

For many gay parents, support groups provide an opportunity to enhance their network of support and meet others going through similar challenges specific to gay parenting. Gay Parent Magazine, a leading LGBTQ+ parenting resource since 1998, provides a variety of gay parenting resources organized by state that range from organizations providing social activities and meeting groups, to events, gatherings and forums for LGBTQ+ parents and their children, and/or LBGTQ+ couples or single individuals considering parenting.

Local Parenting Groups

Many local parenting groups like Park Slope Parents provide resources and information pertaining to gay parenting. From legal and healthcare help to local and national resources, these groups provide valuable information and the opportunity to connect with likeminded parents in your area.

New York City Government

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is committed to creating a safe and affirming environment where all families can thrive. The ACS Office of LGBTQ Child and Family Well-Being raises awareness and helps make sure that all services are affirming of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) youth and families.
