Fresh Egg Donation Cycle

Donor Selection & Stimulation Process

  • You control the donor selection process – our team works with you to evaluate eligible fresh egg donors from the NYU Egg Donor recruitment program. Alongside your care team, you decide how many fresh eggs to reserve (6, 12, or ALL) to complete your cycle.
  • Donors have already been pre-screened, and their profiles are ready to be reviewed immediately.
  • Once we have performed genetic testing to ensure compatibility with your chosen sperm source, we will begin cycle coordination to stimulate and retrieve the donor eggs.
  • As soon as the donor’s stimulation and egg retrieval process are complete, the NYU Langone Fertility Center embryology laboratory will fertilize the donor oocytes with your designated sperm source.

Timing Your Cycle

  • Once you have secured an egg donor, a fresh egg donation cycle typically take 1 – 3 months to complete, as genetic testing and donor stimulation must occur before fertilization can occur.
  • Fresh egg donation cycles can be coordinated with a recipient’s cycle for immediate transfer, or can be run independent of the recipient’s cycle for embryo freezing.

Estimated Cost

  • Fees associated with a fresh egg donation cycle typically begin around $30,000. This includes all charges associated with the fresh egg donor (screening, monitoring, stimulation, anesthesia, retrieval, compensation), along with the recipient’s cycle (fertilization, monitoring, embryo transfer, pregnancy testing, cryopreservation for additional embryos, etc).

Frozen Egg Donation Cycle

Donor Selection & Stimulation Process

  • You control the donor selection process – our team works with you to evaluate eligible frozen donor egg lots (typically 6-eggs) from the NYU Frozen Donor Egg bank, as well as from our egg banking partners: MyEggBank and Fairfax Egg Bank.
  • Donors have already been pre-screened, and their profiles are ready to be reviewed immediately.
  • If you choose to work with one of our egg banking partners, you will receive online access to profiles of pre-screened donors, with photographs, medical history and genetic reports, that you can look through and select from in the comfort of your home.
  • Since the eggs are already frozen, as soon as you select your frozen donor eggs, they are shipped to NYU Langone Fertility Center embryology laboratory where they are fertilized with your designated sperm source.

Timing Your Cycle

  • Frozen egg donation cycles can be completely planned around your schedule. As soon as the eggs arrive at NYU Langone Fertility Center, your cycle can begin.

Estimated Cost

  • Fees associated with a frozen egg donation cycle typically begin around $20,000. This includes the purchase of frozen donor eggs, the shipment of the eggs to the NYU Langone Fertility Center laboratory, and the recipient’s cycle (fertilization, monitoring, embryo transfer, pregnancy testing, cryopreservation for additional embryos, etc).

Fresh versus Frozen Egg Donation Cycles:

Our Donor Egg team will collaborate with you to determine the right solution for your family building goals.

At a high level:

  • Fresh egg donation cycles are preferred:
    • For patients who are interested in using a single donor to build a family with more than one child
    • For patients who require genetic testing for dominant diseases in the intended father
  • Frozen egg donation cycles are preferred:
    • For patients who want the shortest time course to pregnancy
    • For patients who wish to evaluate a larger number of donors in search of a specific trait or demographic
    • For patients who want a lower cost option without compromising on ultimate success
